In order to make the maintenance, modernisation and extension works move on swiftly and safely, CFL will have to proceed to closures on the lines 10 (Luxembourg – Troisvierges – Gouvy), 30 (Luxembourg – Wasserbillig – Trèves), 50 (Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon), 60 (Luxembourg – Esch-sur-Alzette – Rodange), 70 (Luxembourg – Rodange – Longwy) et 90 (Luxembourg – Bettembourg – Thionville) on several occasions during 2018. In certain cases, construction works will take place during weekends, in other cases during a period of several weeks. Replacement bus services will be implemented. Each time works are carried out at the weekend, the will end on the Sunday to Monday night.

Line 10 (Luxembourg – Troisvierges – Gouvy
The CFL will modernise and maintain several stations and pieces of infrastructure on line 10 in order to ensure the comfort and safety of their customers. Works to remove level crossings will continue.

Planned closures
Closure of the section of the line between Ettelbruck and Diekirch
– from Saturday 31 March to Sunday 15 April,
– from Saturday 25 August to Sunday 7 October,
– from Saturday 27 October to Sunday 11 November,
– the weekend of 17 to 18 November 2018.

Closure of the section of the line between Luxembourg and Diekirch
– from Saturday 25 August to Sunday 16 September ,
– from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 November,
– on the weekends of 3 to 4 March, 10 to 11 March, 17 to 18 March and 29 to 30 September 2018.

Closure of the section of the line between Ettelbruck and Troisvierges
– between Saturday 31 March and Tuesday 3 April,
– the weekends of 7 to 8 April and 20 to 21 October 2018.

Closure of the section of the line between Luxembourg and Dommeldange
– on the weekends of 28 to 29 April, 5 to 6 May, 19 to 20 May, 30 June to 1 July, 6 to 7 October and 13 to 14 October 2018.

Closure of the section of the line between Kautenbach and Wiltz
– on the weekend of 13 to 14 October 2018.

– Modernisation of fixed electric traction systems (Walferdange −

– Installation of overhead systems on the new second Pulvermühle viaduct
– Preparatory work for the installation of new signalling
– Modernisation of switches and crossings (Kautenbach, Clervaux, Troisvierges and Dommeldange stations)

Removal of level crossings to increase the safety of all users :
– Preparatory work for the removal of the Walferdange level crossing
– Preparatory work for the removal of the level crossing in Rue de Hunsdorf, Lorentzweiler

Line 30 (Luxembourg – Wasserbillig – Trier)
The works which will take place on line 30 in 2018 will mostly focus on increasing network capacity and relieving congestion at the north head of Luxembourg train station.

Closure of the section between Luxembourg and Oetrange
– on the weekends of 3 and 4 March, 10 and 11 March, 28 and 29 April, 5 and 6 May, 19 and 20 May, 30 June and 1 July, 29 and 30 September, 6 and 7 October and 13 and 14 October 2018.

Planned Works
– Construction of the new second Pulvermühle viaduct
– Work to double the track on the Luxembourg − Sandweiler-Contern section

Line 50 (Luxembourg – Kleinbettingen – Arlon)

Major works will take place on line 50 in 2018 in order to standardise the power supply system throughout the network. This will help to ensure more flexible scheduling for the rolling stock and improve the stability of the power supply for the line. In general, the management of cross-border traffic between Luxembourg and Belgium, as well as the service between Luxembourg and Brussels, will be made easier thanks to these measures.

Line closure between Luxembourg and Arlon

– from Saturday 14 July to Sunday 16 September 2018.

Planned works
– Conversion of power supply system from direct current 3000 Volt to alternative current 25000 Volt System on the entire line 50
– Modernisation of Kleinbettingen train station

Line 60 (Luxembourg – Esch-sur-Alzette – Rodange)
Line 90 (Luxembourg – Bettembourg – Thionville)
Several major CFL projects are planned or are under way in order to relieve the bottlenecks on lines 60 and 90 (at Luxembourg station, on the section between Luxembourg and Bettembourg and on the section between Rodange and Pétange) and increase the capacity at these locations. In addition, the CFL plan to renew the railway installations on certain sections of both lines and to remove some level crossings.

Closure of the section between Esch-sur-Alzette and Rodange
– from Saturday 19 May to Sunday 27 May,
– from Saturday 25 August and Sunday 16 September 2018.

Closure of the section between Bettembourg and Esch-sur-Alzette
– from Saturday 31 March to Sunday 15 April,
– from Saturday 27 October to Sunday 4 November,
– the weekend of 5 to 6 May (from 22.00 on Saturday night), Sunday 7 October 2018.

Planned works
– Construction of new Bettembourg – Luxembourg line
– Preparatory work for the creation of the Howald interchange
platform
– Preparatory work for the removal of three level crossings in
Schifflange
– Upgrading of railway facilities on some sections of Line 60

Line 70 (Luxembourg – Rodange – Longwy)
The section between Dippach and Pétange will be closed on the weekends of 24 to 25 November and 1 to 2 December in order to enable the works to renew the railway installations around Bascharage and Schouweiler railway stop to take place.
